How do you recognise companies?

Accepted Answer

Company recognition links technical information from a website visit, such as the business IP address, to a database of public and business company information. When there is a reliable match, the company is shown in the LeadBot dashboard. Recognition happens at company level, so you do not automatically see the name of the individual visitor. Visitors working from home, on a mobile network or behind a VPN often cannot be linked to a company.

Is every company that visits my website recognised?

Not every visit can be linked to a company. Recognition depends on the network used, the available company data and the reliability of the match. Visits from a business network are usually easier to recognise than visits from a home network, mobile network or VPN.

Can I see which person from a company visited my website?

Accepted Answer

Company recognition identifies the company behind a visit, not the individual visitor. You see that an organisation visited your website, but not which employee. If someone submits a form or contacts you through LeadBot, the contact details they voluntarily share are linked to the company visit.

Company recognition is mainly valuable for B2B websites, because visitors there often browse via their organisation's network. On websites aimed mostly at consumers, a smaller share of traffic will typically be recognisable.

Depending on the available data you can see the company name, website, industry, location and website behaviour. Website behaviour includes pages visited, number of visits and any conversions through LeadBot or a form. Which fields are available can differ per company.

Yes, you can see which pages a recognised company visited. That gives you a better picture of the topics, services or products the organisation is interested in, which helps sales and marketing teams prioritise and prepare their follow-up.

Yes. When company recognition is combined with LeadBot, you can see whether a recognised company got in touch through LeadBot or submitted a form. That connects anonymous website behaviour to concrete conversions as soon as a visitor leaves their details.

How does this work with the GDPR and privacy?

Accepted Answer

Company recognition focuses on organisations, not individuals. A business IP address does count as personal data under the GDPR, so a legal basis is required. We rely on legitimate interest (article 6(1)(f) GDPR): marketing and analytics count as a legitimate purpose, and we use as little data as possible to achieve it. Visitor consent is not required for this basis, but you are required to mention the use of company recognition in your own privacy statement. Note that for sole traders the line between company and person can blur, which may make the GDPR apply more directly. Consult your own lawyer if in doubt; we are not a legal adviser and this is not legal advice.

How long is the data kept?

Data about recognised companies and visit behaviour is kept for as long as your account is active, with a retention period of up to 14 days after your subscription ends so you can still export your data. After that it is deleted or anonymised, unless a legal retention obligation says otherwise. IP addresses themselves are not stored separately.

Yes, you can hide companies once they have been recognised.

Can I connect the data to my CRM?

Accepted Answer

LeadBot supports integrations through webhooks and Zapier, among others. Depending on the available actions and fields, data can be sent to a CRM or other marketing and sales tools. Check in advance which company and visit data is available within the chosen integration.
